First Lady Margaret Kenyatta has been elected as the Vice Chair-person of the Organization of African First Ladies Against HIV /AIDS (OAFLA).

The Kenyan First Lady was unanimously thrust into the position by her colleagues and will deputize the Burkina Faso First Lady Mrs. Sika Bella Kabore who is the current chairperson of the continental First Ladies Organization.

The elections of OAFLA’s Vice Chair position were held at the AU Commission Old Buildings during the Steering Committee meeting of OAFLA ahead of the organization’s 22nd Ordinary General Assembly set for tomorrow, Sunday 10th, February 2019.

The OAFLA General Assembly took plane on the sidelines of AU Heads of State and Government which was also attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The elevation of Kenya to the vice chair of OAFLA comes only a day after AU members unanimously re-elected Kenya as a member of the AU security council for another three years.

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Cabinet Secretary Dr Monica Juma said Kenya’s re-election to the AU Security Council was a demonstration of the goodwill and confidence Kenya enjoys among its African peers.

Kenya has held the seat since 2016, representing the East African region.
