It is high time for youth to exploit entrepreneur opportunities so that they become job creators and not job seekers, Deputy Mayor of Ilemela Municipal Council, Willbard Kilenzi has suggested.
Kilenzi made the remarks yesterday here when wrapping up a one-day seminar for more than 300 youth in Mwanza City, located on the shores of Lake Victoria.
“This training is part of the city council’s efforts to address youth unemployment in the country,” he said.
“Our idea is to address challenges facing youth in the world including Tanzania,” said Jamhuri Deule, coordinator of EQWIP HUBS project under the sponsorship of Youth Challenge International.
EQWIP HUBs is a global network of innovation spaces that connect and transform the economic trajectory of youth through market-driven work skills and entrepreneurship incubators, gender-responsive programmes, mentorships, networks and seed grants for new entrepreneurs.
The global network of youth innovation spaces spanning 18 developing urban centers in Bolivia, Ghana, Indonesia, Peru, Senegal and Tanzania that connect and transform the economic trajectory of youth.
Deule encouraged youth to be creative so that such training be meaningful for them to get into competitive labor markets. Stephen Eric, a tutor at the Mwanza based Institute of Rural Development Planning (IRDP) said that in order to accomplish youth’s dreams the institutions has decided to be a partner in the project by offering all the necessary facilities for them to acquire education.
According to Eric, the training, which will involve more than 300 youth is meant to transform youth’s mindset will be for three months.
One of the participants, Janice Obeid expressed his hope that the training will take him to a milestone.
“After finishing Form Six, I did not get a job, therefore, I ended up staying at home without doing anything. This training will show me the way,” he said.
